First combined edition, first printing. Publisher's original navy cloth with gilt tiles and illustration to the spine and upper board, lacking the dustwrapper. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and one colour plate, with a further 35 black and white illustrations by Norah McGuinness. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with bumping to the spine tips and light rubbing to the extremities. The contents, with toning to the endpapers and a little dustiness to the text block are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps.
Published in an edition of 1,885 copies on 11 November 1927. 'Stories of Red Hanrahan' was first published by Dun Emer Press in an edition of 500 copies in May 1905. 'The Secret Rose' was published by Lawrence and Bullen in April 1897. This first combined edition also contains the first trade appearance of the poem 'Sailing to Byzantium'. (Wade 157).
