Limited edition. Publisher's original card covers with marbled paper wrappers. 14.5 x 9cm. Illustrated by Joan Hassall with a frontispiece and five further wood block engravings. 'Meadow' pattered marbled paper by Jemma Lewis. Manuscript note from the publisher loosely laid in. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents are clean throughout.

Issued in an edition of 130 hand printed copies of which 100 were for sale in aid of the 'Keep it Up' campaign. 'Writing in 1946 to her brother Christopher, Joan complained that she found Mary Russell Mitford's 'Our Village' insipid. The evidence of her engravings, [...] shows that Joan rose to the occasion, for these are some of her finest and most satisfying illustrations.' (publishers note)
