Reprint of the 1868 Globe edition. Modern black morocco, with five raised bands with tiny gilt embellishments and a Middle English 'A' outlined in gilt to the spine. Decorative 'A' and a Celtic knot to the upper and lower boards, respectively. All edges deckled. Textured endpapers. Housed in a felt-lined black buckram solander box. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, bright and fresh. The contents, spotting to the prelims and title page with a short closed tear to the bottom edge of the half title, and some pencilled marginalia and underlining throughout. In the very near fine, structurally sound solander box. One of the best-known works of Arthurian literature, in a unique craft binding.
