First edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Berthold Wolpe designed dustwrapper. A very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper that remains without loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£2.75 net on a white label to the lower front flap).
Issued to complement the 'Collected Shorter Poems' (1966). Both collections print the poems in roughly chronological order (earlier selections had been organised alphabetically) and became the basis for the posthumous – and still standard – 1976 single-volume 'Collected Poems'. The volume contains 'Paid on Both Sides', 'Letter to Lord Byron', 'New Year Letter', 'For the Time Being', 'The Sea and the Mirror', and 'The Age of Anxiety'. Published 13 November 1968 in an edition of 7,000 copies (Bloomfield and Mendelson A61).
