Early edition. Original paper-covered boards with titles and decorations in black to the spine and upper board and a illustration plate onlaid on the upper board. With eight colour plates and further black and white drawings by Evelyn Stuart Hardy throughout. A very good copy, the binding firm, the spine tips and corners slightly worn. A couple of internal gutters are cracked but holding firm. The contents, with the faint impression of an erased pencilled gift inscription to the front free endpaper, some offsetting to the endpapers and spotting to the margins of some pages, are otherwise clean. Scarce.

An attractive edition of Lewis Carroll's children's classic, beautifully illustrated by Evelyn Stuart Hardy. This volume was issued in John F. Shaw's 'Tell Me a Story' series.
