A TOWN LIKE ALICE

First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Top edge red. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with some toning to the half title and just a few isolated foxing spots to the text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' marks. Complete with the very good, bright, lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has a few small chips at the spine tips and fold corners and some spotting to the underside Not price-clipped (10s 6d net to the lower front flap). An attractive example.

Signed by the author with his full name 'Nevil Shute Norway' in blue ink on the title page. Scarce thus. Issued simultaneously on first publication as a 'Book Society Choice' by William Heinemann, and the Book Society in June 1950. Nevil Shute's best known novel. The basis for the 1956 Jack Lee directed film of the same name, starring Virginia McKenna and Peter Finch.
