First edition, first printing. Limited to 1,000 numbered copies, of which this is 602. Publisher's black cloth with gilt titles to the upper board. Illustrated throughout with striking fantasy drawings by Hannes Bok which show hints of Art Deco and Cubist influence. This copy is the variant with the illustration of a nude man to page 19. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, with a soft bump to the lower spine tip and a tiny patch of wear to the top edge of the upper board. The contents are bright and clean throughout and free of previous owner's stamps and inscriptions.

Published posthumously, the weird fiction writer A. Merritt's unfinished short story 'The Fox and The Woman' is concluded here by his good friend and frequent collaborator Hannes Bok, the prolific fantasy artist and writer who is particularly known for his pulp magazine covers. (Bleiler). Provenance: from the library of Martin Stone.
