THE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN VERSES. Combining 'When We Were Very Young' and 'Now We Are Six'

First edition with new colour illustrations by E.H. Shepard and a new preface by A.A. Milne. First issue. Original blue cloth with titles in gilt to the spine and gilt decorations to the upper board, in the E. H. Shepard illustrated dustwrapper. Top edge blue. Illustrated with 12 full page colour plates and black and white drawings throughout the text by Shepard throughout. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth with some pale dampstaining to the fore-edges of the boards. The contents, with some spotting to the text block edges and infrequently internally, slight offsetting to the endpapers, and a small bookseller's label to the rear pastedown are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed, bright dustwrapper that is spotted to the inside (showing though in places to the spine) and has an 8cm closed tear to the front flap fold and a 2cm closed tear to the rear flap fold. Uncommon in the dustwrapper.

The book is in first issue with blue cloth and gilt lettering and vignette, later issues were in red cloth with black titles. A wonderful collection of Milne's verses, generously illustrated with Shepard's dynamic, characterful drawings, printed in colour for the first time.
