Three original pen and ink drawings. The first depicting a repurposed World War I tank, the image measuring 14.5 x 7.5cm, inscribed by the artist upper left 'to Oliver Simon / from Edward Bawden'. Two further drawings in ink on J Green and Son watermarked paper (measuring 29 x 23.5cm), one depicting a butterfly and flower (8 x 8.5cm); the other, a spider, bottle and fly (8.5 x 5.5cm). On the reverse is a faint pencil sketched 'A Selection of Interesting Menus' design.
Provenance: Oliver Simon (typographer, director of the Curwen Press); Stanley Jones MBE (artist and master lithographer). Edward Bawden (1903-89) was a master printmaker, illustrator, watercolourist and designer and is today recognised as one of the most influential artists of his generation. He is perhaps best-known for his commercial work for companies such as Twinings and Fortnum & Mason, and his linocuts depicting everyday England.
