Illustrated throughout with black and white illustrations and diagrams, including two fold-out. A very good or better copy, the binding firm, with a few scratches to the upper and lower boards and some rubbing to the extremities. The contents, with a little light foxing to the tissue guard and the title page, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps.

Encausse was a French physician and occultist with a strong interest in Kabbalah and Tarot. He helped to found France's first occult society, The Kabbalistic Order of the Rose-Cross, and co-founded the esoteric Christian modern Martinist Order in 1886.
