TRADEFULL MERCHANTS. The Portrayal of the Capitalist in Literature.

First edition. Publisher's original brown cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with a touch of rubbing to the extremities. The contents, with a small finger mark to the top edge of the text block, are otherwise clean throughout, and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the very good, rubbed original dustwrapper, which is mildly faded to the spine and toned to the rear panel and edges, with a horizontal split across the rear panel, a short closed tear to the top edge of the rear panel, and two small labels overlapped and pasted to the lower rear panel. Not price-clipped (£11.95 net to the lower front flap, struck out in pencil).

A comprehensive survey of the literary attitudes to capitalism from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries, and the development of the commercial character in poetry, drama, and fiction.
