First edition. Publisher's original blue cloth with black titles to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with 48 plates and two map (one folding). An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm with some bumping to the lower edge of the front board, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with the bookplate and ownership signature of Arthur W. Cox to the front endpaper, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the rubbed and nicked price-clipped dustwrapper that has an ink mark to the upper panel and a partially removed paper label from the somewhat toned spine. Scarce in dustwrapper.

The author, a member of the Indian Civil Service, published three monographs on the Nagas: The Lhota Nagas (1922), The Ao Nagas (1926) and The Rengma Nagas (1937). The binding on the present volume is in the presumed second state, with black rather than gilt titles.
