First edition of an authoritative history of the British Army participation in the Mahdist War, by an eye-witness to the Soudan campaign. Publisher's original light brown cloth with gilt illustration and titles to the upper board and spine. With a tissue-guarded frontispiece and 29 further illustrations throughout the text. Four maps. A very good copy, the binding firm with a little bumping at the spine tips and a lightly rolled spine. The contents, a little shaken, with a previous owner's name to the front pastedown, another to the front endpaper and mild spotting to the prelims, are otherwise clean throughout.
