INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PRINT WOODCUTS PROPERLY

First edition thus, first printing. Original patterned boards with a green cloth spine inlaid with a paper title label. With a frontispiece portrait which is a reproduction of a woodcut by Nicholas Caron. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the spine tips very slightly rubbed. The contents are clean and bright throughout and without stamps or inscriptions.

Issued in a limited edition of 100 copies, this example is numbered 3. The text is taken from the first section of the third and last chapter in the fifth and last part of volume II of Jean Michel Papillon's 'Traité Historique et Pratique de la Gravure en Bois', first published in 1766. With a new preface and appendix by the designer, printer and binder Paul L. Kershaw.
