CELEBRATION ALE

An unopened bottle of limited edition Carr's Bitter, bottled for Faber and Faber in celebration of William Golding's winning of the Nobel Prize for Literature, 10th December 1983. In good condition, the label, complete with unflattering portrait of the author, is somewhat rubbed and nicked, the cap pitted and tarnished. The contents whilst entirely complete, would take a braver man than me to try them.

Issued in a limited edition of 100 copies, this example is stamped '066'. The recipient of this particular bottle was Frank Pike, editor at Faber and Faber for 41 years and from the 1960s onwards responsible for the Faber drama list, recruiting Tom Stoppard, Simon Gray, Brian Friel, Sam Shepard, and Alan Bennett, among others, as well as working closely with authors already publishing with the firm, notably Samuel Beckett.
