A scarce early advertising poster for Collins' White Circle Mystery Novels series, launched in January 1937 as a companion to the hugely successful White Circle Crime Club. Unlike the more procedural Crime Club titles, the White Circle Mystery Novels line focused on espionage adventures, fast-paced thrillers, and sensational fiction in the popular tradition of Edgar Wallace. Alongside Wallace, prominent contributors included David Hume, J. M. Walsh (who also wrote as Stephen Maddock), Arthur Mills, and Sydney Horler. By the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, more than 40 titles had been published under the White Circle Mystery Novels imprint.
