THE WRONG BOX

First edition. Publisher's original red cloth with black titles to the upper board and titles in gilt to the spine. First state publisher's adverts dated January 1889 to the rear. Second state of contents page without the separation ornament. A very good copy indeed, the binding firm with a little bumping to the extremities, the cloth a little darkened and with a few marks, the gilt bright. The contents, with an ink name at the head of the title page and very light spotting to the prelims, are otherwise clean throughout. An attractive example.

The first of three novels Stevenson collaborated on with his American stepson, Lloyd Osbourne. The basis for the 1966 Bryan Forbes directed British comedy film of the same name starring Michael Caine, Ralph Richardson, Peter Cook and a large ensemble cast.
