First edition in book form, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with black titles to the upper board and spine, without dustwrapper. Top edge yellow. Deckled fore-edge. Publisher's device on the copyright page, as called for. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, with a little rubbing and bumping to the spine tips and extremities, the cloth with a few marks and toning to the spine. The closed text block edge is a little toned. The contents, with a some offsetting to the endpapers and the occasional foxing spot, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps.

The third Nero Wolfe novel, originally serialised in six issues of 'The Saturday Evening Post' between 29 February and 4 April 1936. This first edition in book form was issued 9 April 1936. The UK first edition, published by Cassell and Company followed in 1938. (Hubin).
