First edition, first printing. Publisher's original green cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Andrew Kay illustrated dustwrapper. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, with light rubbing to the extremities and bumping to the spine ends. The contents, with spotting and toning to all edges of the closed textblock, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the better than very good lightly creased dustwrapper, which has a nick to the head of the spine and a 1cm tear to the top of the rear panel (taped on the verso) and is otherwise free from fading or loss. Not priced to the front flap and without the publisher's address or ISBN number on the rear flap, presumably for export.

The second book in the 'Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy' series. First published as a paperback original earlier the same year by Pan Books, this is the first hardcover edition.
