First edition, bound from the original parts. Contemporary half calf over marbled paper boards. Five raised bands, gilt decorated compartments and titles in gilt to the spine. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Portrait frontispiece engraved by J. H. Baker. With 13 illustrations including the vignette title page by Samuel Fildes. An excellent example, the binding square and firm with minor rubbing at the the extremities. The contents, with a few isolated foxing spots primarily to the prelims are otherwise clean throughout. Bound from the original parts, the blue wrappers and adverts discarded.
