THE LIFE OF CHARLOTTE BRONTĖ Author of "Jane Eyre", "Shirley", "Villette", &c.

First edition, first printing. Two volumes. Publisher's original brown cloth with titles in gilt to the spines. Page edges untrimmed. Engraved frontispiece to each volume, the first volume with a portrait of Brontė, the second with a view of Haworth Church and Parsonage. Engraved facsimile manuscript plate to volume one. A good only set, the bindings with cracking to the hinges at the front and rear of both volumes, some splitting to the head of the rear joint of volume one, and both with a slight lean, chipping to the spine ends and wear to the corners. The contents with the endpapers of volume one affixed to the pastedowns, the rear endpaper of volume two lacking, a contemporary owner's name in ink to the front endpaper of volume one and half title page of volume two, and light scattered foxing to the engraved frontispieces and preliminary pages are otherwise in good order.
