First UK hardcover edition. Publisher's original burgundy cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Evan Ross illustrated dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with a small bump to the tail of the spine. The text block is a little toned to the top and fore-edges. The contents are clean throughout, and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly creased dustwrapper which has been clipped and repriced by the publisher with a small label (£6.50) on the lower front flap.

A science fiction satire depicting the unexpected first contact between a troop of medieval English soldiers and a scouting party of aliens from the Wersgorix Empire after they land in northeastern Lincolnshire. The novel was nominated for the 1961 Hugo Award.
