First edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with dark blue titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with minor spotting to the prelims and closed page edges are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has a chip to the bottom corner of the front panel and a slightly faded spine. Scarce in dustwrapper.

A widely respected and highly readable account of the life of the sixteenth century self-made Emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, better known as Shivaji. The author Dennis Kincaid was a civil servant in British India and the elder son of Charles Augustus Kincaid, a distinguished civil servant, and well-known novelist and historical writer. The book was published posthumously, the author died (aged 31) in a drowning accident whilst swimming in rough seas, shortly after completing the proof corrections.
