SELECTED POEMS 1965 - 1975

First edition, first printing. Paperback issue. Signed by the author. Publisher's illustrated card wraps. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. The wraps are a a little rubbed and soiled, the page block edges dusty. A signed copy with a difference, and a lovely example of the poet's famous wit and warmth.

Signed by the author in black ink on the occasion of his visit to Calday Grange Grammar School, West Kirby, Birkenhead within the otherwise empty school library issue form stamped to the verso of the front cover (familiar to those of a certain age). Heaney has playfully signed his name in the column provided for pupils borrowing the book, beside an issue date already filled in ("3/11/81", which may well be the date the book was signed). This was Heaney's first 'Selected', the poems chosen by the author from 'Death of a Naturalist', 'Door into the Dark', 'Wintering Out', and 'North'. It was issued simultaneously in hardback and paperback. (Brandes & Durkan A26a).
