First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Original patterned paper to the upper board over black cloth with titles to the spine in silver, in dustwrapper, complete with the original Poetry Book Society band. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the upper board with a faint mark. The contents, with an ownership inscription on the front free endpaper and some light spotting to the prelims and top of the closed text-block edge, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwapper and band, both of which are toned to the spine. Not price-clipped (10s 6d on the front flap).
Signed by Dannie Abse on the title page. Abse was a prolific poet whose work spanned seven decades. He was also a physician at a chest clinic, and medicine, along with his Welsh and Jewish upbringing, is a common theme in his writing. This is his fourth book of poetry.
