Uncorrected proof copy of the first edition, first printing. Publisher's blue card covers with titles in black. A very near fine copy, the binding square and tight showing light rubbing at the extremities and perhaps just a touch of fading to the spine edges. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Scarce in proof state.

'Opened Ground' still remains the closest thing to a collected Heaney. The volume also includes the acceptance speech, 'Crediting Poetry', given by Heaney upon receiving the 1995 Nobel Prize in Literature.
