First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original green cloth with silver titles to the spine, in the Ralph Thompson illustrated dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding firm with a little bumping to the spine tips. The contents, with a bookplate to the front endpaper and some spotting to the prelims and closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the rubbed and nicked, price-clipped first printing dustwrapper that has several short closed tears and some toning to the spine and panel edges.

Signed by Gerald Durrell in blue ink at the top of the front endpaper, scarce thus. The first and best known book in the author's autobiographical 'Corfu trilogy', a never out of print classic and the basis of several successful television adaptations.
