First UK edition, first printing. Hardcover. Publisher's original black cloth with silver titles to the spine, in the Sue Dray illustrated dustwrapper which retains the quintessential black and white striped spine. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh, with just a touch of bumping to the extremities. The contents, with a previous owner's name in blue ink on the front endpaper, are otherwise clean throughout. The closed text block is a little spotting, with a small brown mark to the fore-edge. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper, which has a touch of spotting to the underside, and is otherwise without fading, loss, or tears. Not price-clipped (£7.50 to the lower front flap). Scarce.
