First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Original card wrappers (no hardback edition was issued) designed and illustrated by the author. A more or less as new copy. The faint vertical creases visible to the inner side of the front panel are merely traces of the book having been gently opened (perhaps when signed). Otherwise bright, tight, square and with barely any toning. A lovely copy.
Neatly signed in black ink, without dedication, to the title page. Based on a television play written in 1973, Gray's fourth novel is the only one published by the Dog and Bone Press. The blurb states that the novel "differs from Alasdair Gray's other books by having a hero who gets everything he wants, marries and lives happily ever after". (Moores B4a)
