JAGDSTAFFEL 356

First English edition, first printing. Publisher's original light blue cloth with black titles to the spine, in the Stanley Orton Bradshaw dustwrapper. Illustrated with 12 black and white photographic plates throughout. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, with a little rubbing and bumping to the spine tips and extremities. Mildly spotted to the toned text block edge. The contents, with the ownership inscription of aviation expert and former editor for 'Jane's All the World's Aircraft' annuals John W. R. Taylor in black ink to the front endpaper, are lightly spotted throughout. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper, that is a touch darkened to the spine, has a short closed tear to the bottom of the rear flap fold and a little surface loss to the front panel resulting from the removal of a label. Not price-clipped (3s 6d. net to the lower front flap).

This volume, published here in English for the first time, forms part of 'The Airman's Bookshelf', a series of aviation books published by John Hamilton Ltd. 'Although the author has obviously given this Jagdstaffel a fictitious number and changed the names of the pilots composing it, the incidents related in this book have a genuine ring and will be recognised as facts by anyone who has had experience of flying on the western front. Whatever its real number may have been, its real number may have been, Jagdstaffel 356 undoubtedly fought in the Flanders air in 1918' (publisher's blurb to the front flap).
