This title won the 1987 Kurt Mascher award which recognised one "work of imagination for children, in which text and illustration are integrated so that each enhances and balances the other". A superb association copy, this being from the library of Tom Maschler, titan of British publishing and at the time of publication, the head of the Jonathan Cape publishing house. It was Maschler who in 1978 introduced Quentin Blake to Roald Dahl, therefore facilitating one of the most notable partnerships of illustration and text in late 20th century children's literature.
