A collaboratively written novel about a deceased science fiction writer called Allan Carpenter navigating a hell based of Dante's Inferno, guided by a mysterious, Virgil-like figure. On his journey he meets various figures from history, such as Vlad Tepes, Henry VIII, Jesse James and L. Ron Hubbard. Niven and Pournelle wrote a sequel, 'Escape From Hell', which was published in 2009.
