Ian McEwan's second book and second collection of short stories. The dark and unsettling themes of McEwan's early stories and novels earned him the nickname 'Ian Macabre' and this collection lives up to the moniker, containing nurses who take surgical revenge on their cheating lover, a relationship between a woman and an ape, a post-apocalyptic London and a man who falls in love with a mannequin.
