First edition, first printing of the second Philip Marlowe novel. Publisher's original light brown cloth with dark blue titles to the upper board and spine, in the Hans J. Barschel designed dustwrapper. Top edge blue. A lovely very near fine copy, the binding square and firm with light bumping at the spine tips. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps, the top stain without fading. Complete with the rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which has a couple of small chips, one at the top left corner of the front panel, the other to the bottom left of the lightly toned spine, neither affecting the text. Not price-clipped ($2.00 to the upper front flap). An attractive example in entirely original condition.

A Haycraft Queen Cornerstone.
