First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Original full black leather with gilt titles to the spine. In the original plain glassine dustwrapper, as issued. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. A fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. There are two tiny, shallow indentations to the closed text-block fore-edge. The glassine is in near fine condition, with a small chip to a spine fold.

Signed by David Brin in blue ink on the flyleaf. This signed edition was issued in an unnumbered edition of 342 copies. A cautionary science fiction tale set in the near future in which human technology has brought about disaster for planet earth. Noted for accurately predicting a number of developments including internet news media and spam email. The novel was nominated for the Hugo and Locus Awards in 1991.
