First edition in book form, first printing. Original tan cloth with orange titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding firm with slight bumping to the spine tips and a little rubbing at the extremities. The contents are clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the good, slightly fragile, original dustwrapper that is rubbed, nicked and creased and has a number of holes to the flap folds and the faded spine. The author's first novel, a supernatural horror about a sociology professor who discovers that witchcraft is an open secret among women after snooping in his wife's dressing table. First published in 'Unknown Worlds' magazine in 1943, it is published here in book form for the first time. Winner of the 'Retro' Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2019.
