First collected edition. Signed by the author. Four volumes. Original black paper-covered boards with titles in white to the spines, in dustwrappers. Housed in slipcase. Volume I is illustrated with black and white in-text illustrations by Chris Riddell and volume II is illustrated with black and white in-text illustrations by Lisa Flather. A fine set, the bindings square and firm, volume I with a minor bump to the top corner of the upper board, the boards otherwise sharp and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the fine original dustwrappers and the original slipcase.

Signed by Ted Hughes in black ink on the half title of volume I, 'The Iron Wolf'. Hughes' animal poems, collected and arranged by him into four volumes of increasing complexity. Starting with children's poems and ending with poems for adults, it is intended as a 'book for life'.
