ANIMAL FARM. A Fairy Story.

First illustrated edition, first printing. Publisher's original red cloth with titles in silver to the spine and upper board, in dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout with black and white drawings by Joy Batchelor and John Halas. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth with three tiny black dots on the upper board is otherwise bright and fresh. The contents, with offsetting to the endpapers, and some spotting to the early and late pages and a bookseller's label on the rear free endpaper are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. The contents are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and creased original dustwrapper which is lightly marked, price-clipped, a little faded at the spine and with an 'Envelope Economy Label' attached to the upper half of the rear flap, the edge of which was previously fixed to the rear pastedown and the removal of which has scuffed the paper surface.

The first illustrated edition of Orwell's classic work, published in the same year as the Halas and Batchelor animated dramatisation - this being the first adaptation of the novel, as well as the first British animated feature film.
