First edition, first printing. Publisher's original green cloth with titles in black to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. Map endpapers, portrait frontispiece and 10 further photographic illustrations across 7 pages. A very good or better copy, the binding square and firm with a little rubbing and bumping to the spine tips and corners. The contents are entirely complete and without loose or torn pages. The top edge of the text block has a few spots of foxing otherwise the pages remain clean throughout. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and torn price-clipped dustwrapper which is spotted and chipped with loss at the spine tips and panel edges. Scarce in the dustwrapper.

The author's account of his time in the Foreign Legion and adventures on his lone trek across the Sahara including dowsing for water in the desert (and being offered a wife as part payment for his services), encounters with thieves and murderers, and having his life saved by sorcery. He was also the author of at least 16 volumes of crime or adventure fiction, some written under pseudonyms.
