As one of the most influential figures in the history of colour lithography, Fernand Mourlot (1895–1988) redefined the lithographic process into a fine art during the 1930s and 40s, working with many leading artists of the period such as Picasso, Chagall, Matisse and Braque. The medium provided an exciting new form of expression where artists could work directly on to the stone to create original editions and posters which could reach a wider audience. 'A Même La Pierre' contains a fascinating collection of original artworks, letters and drawings sent to Fernand Mourlot by some of the most prominent artists of the 20th Century, many of which are published here for the first time.
