COLLECTION OF LETTERS, PUBLICATIONS AND EPHEMERA RELATING TO THE INVOLVEMENT OF JON WYNNE-TYSON IN THE BRITISH PACIFIST MOVEMENT

Collection comprising 12 booklets in publisher's original stapled wrappers, with around 40 related pamphlets, leaflets and letters. Condition is very good, the bindings firm with a little rusting to the staples, the odd minor crease to the corners, marking to the covers of a couple of the titles, and a short tear to the front cover of one. The contents with the occasional spot of foxing and toning and the odd ink annotation are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout. The letters and ephemera with occasional toning, marking, and minor creasing are otherwise very good.

A varied collection of material relating to the involvement of Jon Wynne-Tyson (1924-2020), the writer, publisher, Quaker, and campaigner for peace, animal rights and vegetarianism, in the British pacifist movement predominantly during the 1950s and 1960s in the Hampstead area. The group includes a significant amount of correspondence and propaganda material (leaflets, manifestos, etc.) relating to the local, national and international activities of the Peace Pledge Union, as well as other British and foreign pacifist organisations, letters from the House of Commons (including one signed on behalf of Ernest Bevin, with envelope bearing his ink signature), six issues of 'The War Resister' (the magazine of War Resisters' International) from 1950, three later CND publications, and much else besides. An uncommon insight into pacifist campaigning in the post-war period.
