First edition, first printing. Publisher's original white card covers printed in black, in the original dustwrapper and glassine. Quarto. 27pp text with line illustrations and an additional 12 pages of illustrations by F. N. Souza printed on laid paper. A near fine copy, the binding firm with light rubbing and a touch of creasing at the spine tips, a couple of spots to the edges. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper that has mild toning and a couple of foxing spots to the edges. The original unprinted glassine is darkened with a couple of nicks, chips and short tears.

This is one of 950 copies of the first edition (from a total edition of 1000). There was also a signed edition of 50 (numbered 1 to 50). Part autobiography, part artists book. Francis Newton Souza (1924-2002), the 'enfant terrible' of Modern Indian art, was a founding member of the Bombay Progressive Artists' Group. He made London his home between 1949 and 1967, with spells in Paris and Rome, after which he emigrated to the USA, finally settling in New York where he resided until his death in 2002.
