WODWO

First paperback edition. Douglas Adams' copy, with his ownership inscription to the inside of the front cover. Original black and red card covers. A good copy, the binding firm with some rubbing and creasing to the edges, with short closed tears to the upper spine and a small chip to the base of the lightly faded spine. The contents, with Adams' ownership inscription, are otherwise clean throughout.

Douglas Adams' copy, inscribed by him in blue ink on the inside of the front cover "Douglas Adams / Cambridge 21.10.71", the year he began studying English Literature at St John's College, Cambridge. 'Wodwo' was Hughes' first book for adults since 'Lupercal' seven years earlier. In addition to poems, the volume contains five stories and a radio play, "the stories and the play", Hughes explains in a prefatory note, "may be read as notes, appendix and unversified episodes of the events behind the poems, or as chapters of a single adventure to which the poems are commentary and amplification. Either way, the verse and the prose are intended to be read together, as parts of a single work". The first edition (in hardcover) was published by Faber and Faber in 1967.
