Second impression of the 1948 first English language edition. Publisher's original blue cloth with red titles to the spine, in the Michael Ayrton illustrated dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with a previous owner's name to the front endpaper are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and spine-faded dustwrapper that is somewhat harshly price-clipped to the lower front flap and spotted to the rear panel and flap edges. The dustwrapper, in this instance is identical to that of the first printing.

The Nobel Prize winning author's second published novel, 'La Peste' was first published in Paris by Gallimard, in 1947.
