SAMUEL JOHNSON. English Men of Letters.

Early edition. Contemporary half vellum over gilt ruled marbled boards, gilt decorations and gilt titles on a brown morocco label to the spine. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the extremities slightly rubbed and darkened, the marbled paper peeling slightly on the rear board. The contents, with a gift inscription to the flyleaf, and tiny ownership inscription to a corner of the front free endpaper and a tiny importer's label to the rear pastedown, are otherwise clean throughout. A few early pages have small creases to the bottom corners.

A biography of Samuel Johnson by the writer, critic, mountaineer and father of Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell, Leslie Stephen.
