First UK edition with these illustrations. Publisher's original sage green cloth with titles in black to the upper board and spine and an illustration plate onlay to the upper board. Lacking the dustwrapper. Illustrated with eight colour plates and black and white decorations by Bessie Pease. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth scuffed to the lower board and rubbed at the spine tips and corners, the illustation onlay missing the top-right corner. There is a previous owner's inscription to the front free endpaper, some spotting to the closed text-block edge, prelims and occasionally throughout.
