THE MYTHS: A SHORT HISTORY OF MYTH, THE PENELOPIAD, WEIGHT, AND A WORD OR TWO ABOUT MYTHS.

First editions. Three volumes and one pamphlet. Signed by the author in each volume. Original black paper-covered boards with grey titles to the spines, in dustwrappers. Fine copies, the bindings square and tight, the contents clean and bright throughout. There is a small strip of faint toning to the top edge of each closed text-block. The pamphlet is toned to the extremities, otherwise it remains clean and sharp. Complete with the bright original dustwrappers that have a slight touch of toning to the spines and a little rubbing to the edges of the flaps. Not price-clipped (£12 on the front flap of each volume). Housed in the original illustrated slipcase that is lettered in gilt to the spine and lower board, with a limitation plate inlay on the upper board. There is a small area of peeling to the spine of the slipcase.

Signed by Karen Armstrong to the title page of 'A Short History of Myth', by Margaret Atwood on the title page of 'The Penelopiad', by Jeanette Winterson on the title page of 'Weight' and by Philip Pullman on the second page of the pamphlet 'A Word or Two About Myths'. Issued in a limited edition of 1,500 copies, this example is numbered 1389 on the limitation plate to the upper board of the slipcase. An attractive presentation of the first three volumes in Canongate's 'The Myths' series, which sees writers from around the world creating retellings of myths from various cultures. Philip Pullman's essay is new and exclusive to this set.
