Seven volumes. Publisher's original brown cloth with titles and single ruled borders to the spines and decorations in black to the spines and upper boards. Volumes 1 to 6 are illustrated with a frontispiece, engraved title page and three further plates after drawings by E. M. Wimperis. Volume 7 has six plates by various artists including a frontispiece portrait of Charlotte Brontė. All volumes are in near fine condition, the bindings square and firm, the extremities lightly rubbed, a few corners with very slight softening. Volume III has a faint scratch on the upper board. The contents, with a closed tear to the flyleaf of volume I and volume V, are entirely otherwise complete, clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps.
