Quarter-length studio portrait by Reginal Haines, a "real photo card" published in Valentine's "XL Series", signed by Winston S. Churchill on the upper image in black ink. With the original hand addressed Board of Trade mailing envelope addressed to Miss Grace Rattray of 2 Melville Terrace, Dundee, post marked 9 May 1908 and signed in the bottom left corner by Churchill. The post card measures 14 x 8.6 cm and is in excellent near fine condition with only very light rubbing at the extremities and a few light spots to the reverse. The envelope measures 9 x 22 cm and is heavily worn and frayed with some soiling and tears but with the address and signature entirely legible.
A superb and scarce early signed photograph of the future twice Prime Minister of Great Britain. The recipient Miss Grace Rattray was the eldest daughter of Dundee linen merchant Robert Rattray and the envelope postmarked 9th May 1908, the day Churchill won the by-election and became MP for Dundee, a post he held until his 1922 General Election defeat.
