First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original orange cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the Raymond Hawkey dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping to the spine tips and top edge of the upper board, the cloth and gilt, bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' marks. The closed edge of the text block is just a little toned. Complete with the correct first printing dustwrapper that us a little nicked to the laminate surface at the top of the spine and is otherwise bright and without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (15/- net to the lower front flap).

Signed by Len Deighton in black ink at the top of the title page. The author's debut, a classic of espionage fiction, and the first of what would later be known as the 'Harry Palme' r novels. The basis for the 1965 Sidney J. Furie directed film starring Michael Caine in the lead role. The film won three BAFTA Awards resulting in two immediate sequels: Funeral in Berlin (1966) and Billion Dollar Brain (1967).
